Methods for rating and assessing industrial and commercial sound

BS4142:1997 - Method for rating industrial noise affecting mixed residential and industrial areas is the British Standard used for assessing the likelihood of complaints from local residents should a new industrial noise source be introduced to the local area.

The industrial noise source can range from a single air conditioning unit, a kitchen extractor or a completely new factory. A BS4142 assessment is frequently requested by Local Authorities in the planning process to ascertain whether or not the proposed source will cause a nuisance to nearby residents.

MSAFE will liaise with the local authority on your behalf to ensure that the acoustic assessment is specifically tailored to meet your needs and keeps the planning process as simple as possible with the noise survey providing recommendations for improvement as necessary.

BS4142 was updated in October 2014 and ‘BS4142:2014 Methods for rating and assessing industrial and commercial sound’ replaces the previous 1997 revision above.
